July 4 Same locality - at 10:30 a.m. the N parents were out on the open water at L27 with 4 swimming young. They were busily feeding them - at this same time egg #1 has the bill pretty well exposed and I suspect it will hatch by this afternoon - egg #4 is well piped but none of the shell is missing - from the way some of these shells from freshly hatched eggs are broken up I suspect that the parent birds may eat the shell, or at least parts of it - certainly the newly hatched young don't mess the shell up so badly - The membranes are generally well intact but great parts of the shell is missing. - Egg of the S nest all cold - #3 weight 29.38 gms. #4 weight 30.13 gms, #1 weighs 31.50 gms + #2 weighs 31.76 gms - hope this nest isn't deserted.
