Juliusi 1949 Eulicia Americana -48- June 26 Jewel Lake, Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., Calif. At 10:15 a.m. no less than 6 ♀ brood young were seen in close company of their ♂ parent. At the same time the ♀ was feeding on some debris at 4.8 - Relocated to a nest seen during the night of June 23- it is at C/2.6. It is built very much as the recently deserted ♀ nest was, high above the water and quite deep cupped no eggs and doesn't seem to have a pathway as yet. I don't believe it is a brood nest - at least it is not like the brood nest at 34 of this pair. Time will tell whether or not it is a new nest. - 4 dives by the ♀ between 11:15 & 11:30 a.m. ran 13, 11, 9.5, 9.5 seconds. - on the last dive she brought up a cat-tail shoot- first one ever seen brought to the surface for quite some time. 6 ♂ young of the south brood have been in view nearly continuously for the last 1/2 hour. June 26 - North El Cerito Creek, Alameda-Contra Costa Co., Calif. I saw seen at 7:15 p.m. today feeding on the mud flats- the tide just about started to go out and they are picking up something in the little pools left behind. They really can & get around on this soft mud with lobed feet. Seems to be a ♂ & ♀ together, but no young.
