Asplenium, Adiantum, Cheilanthes and Pteris.
At 11,000°-12,000°, the forests are entirely of pines & spruce. The greater part of the herbaceous flora at this altitude is made up of Penstemon, Malenia, Ceratium, Aescena, Eryngium, Aracaria, Cnicus, Lupinus & Stevantium.
At 13,000°, the vegetation consists principally of Nasturtium, Ceratium, Arenaria, Potentilla, Phacelia, Castilleia & Lithospermum. The pink woods beginning at 7,000°, disappear at 13,000°, excepting stunted forms that continue to 14,000°.
At 13,500° the vegetation becomes scantier and the slopes more sandy & bare with masses of sharp pointed black & grey rocks. The dry sandy soil produces species of Draba, Graphalium, Erecio, Cnicus, Agrostis, Bromus and Asplenium.
Even at 14,000° on the higher slopes just at the snow line, there exists quite a variety vegetation with species of Draba, Sieymbrum, Graphalium, Cnicus, Asplenium & the grasses of the sandy plain below. This was the highest point at which collections were made but few eral species extend their range a [illegible] hundred feet higher & Dr. Scovell secured a Draba at 15,000°.
The following is a list of the species as they have been determined and at the close is a synopsis of the distribution of the families, genera & species.
In the limited space
