One seen and collecting sitting on
beach at Sooty Tern colony;

1,500 (class B) present, sitting about
in pairs or digging burrows. No
eggs or young found. Another
small area found (see map).
16-20 Oct.
Baker Island
20 birds (class E) presumably flying
off reef.
29 Oct.
Christmas Island
MOTU UPON: Est. 500 pair; mostly
fledged or nearly fledged young; saw
3 large nestlings, contour feathers w/
downy overlay.
3/4 mi. E of tunnel on CARRIER WAY, 700 YDS OFF TO
RIGHT OF ROAD. 15 pair WTS w large
downy young (contour feathers & downy cover).
Many cats seen in area. Barnswa on
slight rise.

BLUE-GRAY ISLAND: .3 nestlings, nearly fledged.

COOK ISLAND: Less than 15 seen flying
over and sitting under Leptopus clumps.

MOTU UPON: 2,5000 ? Several pairs observed
copulating, maximum of 25 eggs seen.
Breeding just beginning; pairs under
almost every Leptopus clump and side
bush in interior of island.
28-32 Oct
100 plus seen flying over main
island. Birds observed flying
over 'Sag. Zigzag Reef'.
