Heard an imm. calling over island at night in addition to about 20 ad. Mc Kean Island 21 Sept. Colony of large locals and flying immatures, max of 10000. Few adults. Hall Island 28 Sept. Three separate colonies. One of 6000 locals in middle of chain of islands on NE side (lagoon); one of 75000 locals on island NW of blocked channel entrance; one of 25000 locals on island of SE corner of lagoon. Phoenix Island 30 Sept. Colonies in same place as last visit, (see map) all in late stage with flying immatures. Maximum of 4500 immatures. Some in starving condition. Jibs numerous in colony. Endeavour Island 03 Oct. Remains of colony at N end of lagoon. Almost all flying immatures. Maximum of 4000 immatures. Towards NE point 1) both sides of road, birds in air 18300 2) both sides road, birds in air 20000. 3000 (just) (seaward side) sitting on ground - no eggs. Site Y 3) 2000 flying or starving immatures. Carnarvon: 1) 10000 on ground plus swish, (moss?) Carnarvon & Site M 3) 3000 in air. Beyond Site M 6) 10000 in 7 spirals.
