Mokuman Island (14) 17 in all, divided from down count to nearly five from down. End No. 615-02001 to 615-02025. At least 3 burrows previously occupied. Burrow was yielded no bird; due probably to depth of tunnel. Many marked burrows were not found in the dark. Only 3 adults were taken in the burrow with the chicks. The other adults were sitting in the open presumably near their burrows. It appeared that at least 5 chicks landed had no adult with them, although the adults may have been scared off. Two burrows were attended by two adults. Chicks were found in both of these burrows. One chick was taken from an unmarked burrow. One Rattus norvegicus was observed at bottom of small sea grape plant. Earlier in the day a dead rat was found at entrance of unoccupied burrow. Left island at approx 2145. Full moon assisted work considerably.
