Oct. 24, 1963
Made first on Oct. 24, 1963. Waded to island from Kalawai point a distance of about 800 feet. Field party consisted of about Robert Flute and 7 in Amanua.
Island is approx. 1200 by 1000 feet. Estimated maximum elev. of island is 12 feet.
This island has been heavily planted with trees and shrubs. Also talked to a fisherman on the island who said that he had planted almost all of Mokuania. There were many palm trees, salt pine, sea grape?, hala, (canava?), and siaote. Also banana and potatoes.
A total of 44 immature (6 to 8 weeks) Wedge-tailed Shearwaters were found and the location stopped for Devilry at a later date.
Eight of these birds were found in Scavda. 2 of which were on the surface, 2 in a partial burrow, and 4 in complete burrows. The remainder of these birds were found in burrows among the grass (Samop.)
