RRJ (i) Manana Island (2) Nov. 23, 1963 Arrived Manana at 1100 hours. Field party consisted of F. Fleet and W. King. Common Noddys were swooping overhead as we landed. Approx. ½ of flat area was covered. M. Ord estimated 250 immatures Wedgetail Shearwaters on the entire island. A estimate 1000 immatures Wedgetsails, excluding th crater which was not seen due to high ridge and which we understand contains the most distinct heaviest population of birds. An estimated 100 Common Noddys were seen flying, and sitting on cliffs and tide flats. Two Tuddy Turnstones were seen along the shore. Two Common Noddys were banded and 209 immatures Wedgetail Shearwaters were banded. In some areas th burrows were so thick that one could not help but step into some of them. At one point I could count 30 burrows in the area around me. Eight dead Wedgetsails and two dead Common Noddys. Major veg. was [illegible] ! Saw two rabbits. Left island at 16 38 hours.
