Nov. 20, 1963 Kapapa Island (A) Arrived this island via Hawaiian Boatman Kong Raulen at 1440 hours. Field party consisted of R. Fleet, W. King, D. Or., and J. Lyons. Island is approx 1200' long by 580' wide and has a maximum elev. of 14 feet. There are extensive tide shelves around part of the island (see map.) Scavola, salt pine, and grasses is the dominant veg. Some palm and Mesquite trees (?) were also seen. Bird nesting spiles, quail snails and rats are present. Veg. samples were taken for identification. The island was carefully searched and 24 immature web-footed swans were found and banded, Seven Golden Plovers, 3 Redeye Turnstone, and 3 wandering Tattlers were seen on the rocky shores of the island.
