Pepper Island (1)
Found on the surface under the
shrubby or in material formed
beneath in the lava rock.
Werner King found 3-4 dead
immatures; we counted 6 dead
adults (one in a deep lava pit
from which it probably could not
escape and consequently starved.),
and 4 spoiled eggs.
At 1755 an adult came in
from sea, circled island and
disappeared into the brush. At
1910 as we were walking back
to Oahu & more adults flew
into island.
A flock of ~35 shore birds
were on the island. Petrels,
Golden Plovers, and Turnstones
were identified (see checklist).
Two species of orb-weaving
Garden Spiders were seen in large
numbers.
Oct. 31, 1963
Arrived at island at 1015 for
purpose of banding. About 70 burrows
had been previously marked for
banding. A total of 75 immatures
and adults were banded. They
varied in size (age) from O'nealy
