September 25--Landed on Necker island at 0900-1100. Much more difficult than Nihoa. Everything wet. Gene got washed out of rubber boat. Jack got dumped in water trying to land. Everyone got knocked down by waves on rock ledge, many cuts and bruises. Hole ripped in rubber boat; must be patched before transferring remainder of gear. Saw twelve seals: 6 adult ?'s, 6 adult unknown. Remains of one dead subadult. Blue-gray Noddies common, Fairy Tern common. Saw one Brown Booby adult and at least two Blue-faced Booby immatures. See one Red-footed Booby adult on nest. Common Noddy alundant. Island is U shaped. Center of U is shark bay. Probably was crater of island. Landing made at West cove at base of U. Began population estimates. September 26--Completed population estimates, did some banding. Left island at 1300 hours. Jack fell into water getting off. Punctured rubber boat; Webb fell in twice and motor quit.
