Fleet, Robert 1964 Sooty Terns bands used: 793-27401 - 28000 28001 - 28500 28501 - 29000 773-70001 - 70500 70501 - 71000 Large numbers of WIS in central area of island in and around abandoned buildings. Estimate 3000 to 4000 on Eastern. Bonin Island Petrel heard and seen in air over Sand Island, but not seen on ground. No Bonins seen on Eastern Island. September 12--Large numbers of Frigatebirds roosting in Casuarina trees, perhaps as many as 500-700. Red-footed Booby about 500 - 600. Wedge-tails and Christmas Island's seen leaving for sea between 0730 and 0830. Saw 15 Xmas Island in air and on ground on South side of Eastern. Shore count indicated 200+ Golden Plover, including flock of 65, probably migrating. Counted over 150 RT and there were probably more in interior of island. Six wandering tattler seen and one BTC. No seals seen. Small numbers (two dozen), Fairy Terns on Eastern Island 200+ Common Noddy, few Hawaiian Noddy along beach. Rats and mice numerous on Eastern Island, mice common on Sand Island. Mice seen on Sand Island off ground, in Hibiscus bushes. Found one adult Laysan albatross on Eastern Island. Larger breast, probably returned from sea. Missed evening boat to Eastern Island so banded Bonin Petrels on Sand Island.
