Fleet, R. 1964--notes by species - Kure 5 Frigates January 30--Frigates observed from tower to be displaying (gular inflation) on central roost. Also (d's) observed to be collecting nest material in form of sticks. Heard to give peculiar whinny call, periodically flip wings. February 6--Observed ? nests in various stages of completion in central roost. In- fiation of gular pouches of males becoming more frequent (also more inflated). February 12--Frigates d's with inflated gular pouches stretch wings out and shake them (quiver) and give whinny cry. February 21--Frigates egg seen by G. Kridles in central roost. Nest building still going on. February 27--Collected 2 adult d's with broken wings. C. R. count up drastically to 260 plus. March 19--Observed these birds robbing RFB nests of material while RFB were away from nest. Frigates will follow above and behind me on beach--seem very curious. Had one bird catch a stick which I had thrown in air. March 30--Marked one nest with egg. ? on nest left. Today there was no sign of nest remaining. Obviously robbed of material by other birds. April 11--Marked about 25 nests but have already lost 1/2 or so. Birds now roosting on guy wires as they were last November. Just started again this week. April 14--lost almost all study nests. Other birds steal nest material, destroy eggs, etc. when marked bird is frightened away. April 15--This species especially susceptible to loss from antenna. April 17--Observed bird in AF pick up fish thrown up by RFB off ground and eat it in the air. April 29--One nest constructed with red flag and wire from our study area.
