C. G. Loran Station, Sand Island, Johnston Island Atoll After dark (with a 3/4 full moon) we began banding birds. Mr. Miller and I banded and marked one hundred Wedge-tailed Shearwaters and then joined Wilz, Amerman, and Elliott who were ganding and marking adult Sooty Terns. We finished at 12:10 after doing five hundred Terns. July 31, 1963 Wilz and Amerman filled out banding reports (Sooty Terns and Wedge-tailed Shearwater. Pat Elliott sketched some of the birds. Mr. Miller and I gathered weather data from the station log. We recorded wind direction, force, temperature (dry and wet) over the last year. August 1, 1963 Since Mr. Miller was leaving this morning we discussed things for him to check on in Honolulu (dry ice shipment on August 11). I gave him a summary of our banding records as of the 31st (6163 birds). During the morning we set up a mist net across the road near the transmitter building. We were able to band one hundred birds in one hour and fifteen minutes. At 2 p.m. Mr. Miller left for the MATS terminal on Johnston Island. The plane, a C119, left about 3:30 p.m. During the afternoon we banded more Sooty Terns by using
