Jan. 26, 1934. We arose early and drove north along the river road to a camp of road workers. The greater part of the day was consumed in a search for a suitable camp site. We con- versed with a fur trapper on various subjects. He gave his name as Calvin Bradshaw, Searchlight, Nev. He conducted trapping operations between the road camp and Search- light, at such times as he was not employed at road work. He stated that he had never caught Bassariscus between the Colorado R. and Searchlight, but had taken them a short distance west of Searchlight. I obtained some trapping scent of his composition, and in return, presented him with some beaver castor scent. Dr. Benson requested him to save the carcasses of mammals he might catch. We camped a few miles north of the Calif., Nev. state line, on a bluff just above a willow-grown slough. I arranged the food and utensils in the tent and cooked dinner. The evening was spent writing notes.
