1. Feathers. Jan. 19, 1934. Jap Ranch, 500+ ft., Colorado R., 14 mi. N. E. Searchlight, Clark Co., Nev. (cont.) carried no shotgun on the horse I was unable to shoot it. I also saw a hawk which may have been a coope r hawk; but I am not sure of the identification. I rode back to camp hurriedly, cooked dinner, washed the dishes and wrote notes. Jan. 20, 1934. I cooked breakfast, washed the dishes and prepared to go to my traps in the truck with Dr. Benson. When we arrived at the Thomas Ranch, we returned the saddle and bridle and Dr. Benson paid for the rent of the horse. We found nothing in my traps. Two men were camped at the end of the road. We ques- tioned them as to beaver sign signs near their camp, and they stated that they had seen no indication of beaver there, but had noticed recent signs of beaver at their previous camp, some 10 miles down the river. No noteworthy incident occurred as we returned to camp. I fleshed the skunk skin and visited the 6 traps in the wash devolving from the mesa. The remainder of the afternoon and eve- ing was spent in doing an unusual amount of cooking, camp work and then my regular notes.
