Feathers. 1935. Boyes Prairie, Prairie Creek State Park, 240 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 42. Oct. 24. In the morning I visited the ranch of Mrs. Boyes, directly across the highway from the camp grounds. I learned that she was away and would be gone for a week or more. I had wished to question her in regard to the releasing of elk on her property sometime in the past. I then drove to Mr. Davidson's ranch. The elk had done no material damage to his carrot patch, since the first study of this ground, made by Mr. Russell and myself over a week before. Fresh tracks of two or three elk were found. I took some photographs of the carrot field, and also, as we were leaving the ranch I took a photo comprehending the general territory. I returned to Boyes Ranch, and photo- graphed two redwood logs serving in part as a fence to show markings thereon made by the hoofs of elk in jumping over the logs. I walked around in this vicinity endeavoring to find a rubbing tree to photograph. I found none suited to my purpose, so returned to camp. The afternoon was spent in packing, and preparing for our departure for Blueley.
