Feathers 1935. Boges Prairie, Prairie Creek State Park, 240ft., 36. Humboldt Co., Calif. Oct. 22, 1935. In the morning, I went south from camp on the road bordering Boges Prairie on the west, to where the Lower Gold Bluff Trail commences. Hereabouts there was much sign of cattle hav- ing grazed. A half dozen or more head of cattle were seen. The grass was everywhere closely cropped. No sign of elk having been in the meadows here recently, was seen. I walked west on the Lower Gold Bluff trail a few hundred yards, to an area which had recently been logged over. Practically no bird or mammal life was noticed here. On leaving here, and continuing westerly, I missed the trail, and was some time in re-locating it. I continued west on the trail for about one mile, to where it was crossed by a newly graded logging road. I walked northwest on the road about a mile, to the end of the present grading work. On this road, deer tracks were fairly numerous, but very few tracks of elk were seen; probably no more than those of two elk. From here, I walked west along the top of a ridge. About one quarter of a mile from the end of the road, I heard noisy movements in the woods. A short distance farther on, I noticed fresh tracks of two elk on the ridge.
