After lying down for about half an hour the elk arose and resumed grazing! Near the small fresh-water lake some 200 yds. inland from tidewater, I noticed a bittern, a green-backed goldfinch, two marsh wrens and a grebe. When it became dark, we drove back to camp. Weather - clear. Oct. 20, 1935. During the morning I worked on my report. In the afternoon I drove north on the high- way four miles, walked in about a mile and a half by trail and carried out the remainder of the elk skeleton mentioned Oct. 19. I then drove north to the town of Klamath on the Klamath R., to make inquiries about a herd of elk I had heard had been seen up the Klamath R. by one of the boatmen. All the information I was able to get was very vague, so I gave up my intention of any further investigation and returned to camp. Weather - clear.
