Feathers 1935. Boyes Prairie, Prairie Creek State Park, 240 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif 20. ( cont.) Oct. 18, 1935- Mr. Webster told us he thought that elk were being killed at the logging camps situated about 1 1/2 mi. W of Mr. Davison's ranch. He thought that logging operations now under way and planned for the future, in the privately owned property between the State Park and the Coast, would be responsible for a great reduction in the numbers of elk, in the near future. Marth Konrad, butcher at Co-op Meat Co., 1/2 mi. W Orick, told us he had had crops severely damaged 4 years ago, had sought protection from the Fish and Game Commission and had received no aid. Shortly thereafter he said he had gone out and shot four elk in one of his fields. He said the local game warden was down on the highway watching him with binoculars, and that when some interested person told the warden to arrest the man shooting elk, the warden laughed and said that Konrad was just scaring them. Konrad said he later confronted a board of F. and G. officers at the Eureka Inn and related the story of his experiences with the elk. He said Mr. Zellerbach, president of F. and G. told him (Konrad) that he did not blame him for shooting the elk, and that the Fish and Game Commission did not want the elk anyway.
