killed on the highway by a truck. No mention
was made of the disposition of the carcass.
He said some damage had been done to
farmers' crops, but seemed to think it
of little extent.
From maps kindly loaned us by Mr.
Meier we concluded that the length of
the Park (North and South) to be approximately
8 miles. The widest point is some two miles
and the narrowest, about 4 mi. The area
of the Park is in excess of 6000 A.
Boyce Prairie is a flat, natural meadow
bordering Prairie Creek, and appears to cover
approximately 100 acres. The surrounding
country nearby is all heavily timbered.
The public camp ground, C.C.C. camp and
custodian's dwelling are located at the north
end of this field.
After our conversation with Mr. Meier,
Mr. Russell and I walked up the Prairie Creek
trail for a distance of approximately 4 miles.
Near the "Swimming Hole", a distance of
about two miles from camp, elk tracks and
droppings were seen. Elk "sign" was seen
along the trail frequently during the
next two miles' progress. This trail led
through heavy timber of redwood, hemlock,
