Feathers. 1934. 100 ft., ½ mi. S Ft. Bragg, Mendocino Co., Calif. May 26, 1934. In two fields, east and west of the highway at the northern city limits of Ft. Bragg, 29 sets were made. Thirteen of these were set by me and 14 by Orr. After lunch the traps were visited. Four gophers were taken from my traps and eight from Orr's. We moved several of the traps from the west to the east field, and at the conclusion of the setting, I had 15 sets out. The soft, sandy loam of the east field apparently contained a far greater number of gophers than did a similar area of the gravelly soil in the west field. We returned to camp and put up the skins. Orr put up seven's gopher skins, I doing five. May 27, 1934. We visited our traps at the northern city limits of Ft. Bragg in the morning. In the west field, I had caught a mole and a gopher. In the east field, another gopher and a weasel were taken. The weasel was caught in a gopher trap, set in an open gopher hole. Its stomach contained the hind foot of a gopher. I left seven sets out, when we returned to camp. I put up the weasel, mole and one gopher skin. The other gopher was so small as to be worthless as a specimen.
