When we returned to the auto camp, the grandson of the proprietor presented us with a gopher, which he had caught on the premises. In setting traps, gravelly soil, black sand and sandy loam were encountered. May 25, 1934. The morning was spent putting up the skins of the gophers caught the previous day. I put up seven gophers. After lunch, our traps were visited. Cats, dogs or children had disturbed several of our sets. Seven gophers were taken. Probably three more had been eaten from the traps; making a total of 28 gophers caught in this approximately ten acre field, in 30 hours. But two gophers and one male were taken from our twelve sets near the river. All our traps were taken up and we returned to camp. In the evening, I put up three more gopher skins. Of the seven gophers previously mentioned, two were taken in one setting. They were an adult male and an adult female."
