Bloodroot - 2 flowers and buds on SE slpe Onions and daylilies to 12" high Some spring beauty. 4/16/71 Day lilies to 14-16". May apple to 12" hi. 6-7" across, some w/ fl. buds 1/2dia. box elder, wild berry, roses all starting to leaf. spring beauty abundant. Foodsteps of spring - few to 6-8" hi - full flower. Purple violets leaefed and w/ full flower to 4". 1230-130p. 65° windy, clear. 4/20/71 1230-1 p.m. Hi ovc. 65-70 calm. spicebush flrs about gone. Most leaf budg open Vinca in flower Purple violets up and open full Spring beauty- many turned to deep pink, and now being hidden by Mayapple - all w/ leaves unfurled. Many flower buds. Leaves in whorled pairs, opposit, fruit on spikes. Leaves pointed elliptical. May apples many down, or yellowed, but fruits hard - green to yel-green. Sensitive fern and poinson ivy and nettles full grown. 9/24/71 Clear, 60-65, 10mph, 12h0-1 p.m.EDST. Maypaples disappeared. Some tulip tree leaves down. Witch hazel and some p.ivy turning. Stream flowing clear. Most forest green. Gray Sq. and Chipmunk. 10/19/71 12h5-105 Clear, breezy, 60-65. Gray Squ-/6. Stream low and clear,w/oily scum some Grapes turned. Tulip and dogwoodsturning. Sycamore and spice bush still green. Mushrooms in woods. 11/5/71 12h5-115 p.m. EST. Maple still green. Beach partially turned. Ferns green. spice bush - some yellow. Papaw and viburnum green. Most big trees almost leafless. 11/18/71 60, light breeze, clear. Most big trees w/o leaves. Much brush still green. Cleek still flowing well, but oil scum present. 1/18/72 1250-120 EST. Clear, 50-60. Ground frozen. light breeze. ice crusts over most creek. Few patches of onions, but honeysuckle mainly only green. Gray Sq. out. 4/17/72 1215-12h5 Clear, windy, 70, After he vy rains.
