BRIGANTINE NATIONAL WILDLIFE
REFUGE, located in New Jersey, totals
over 20,000 acres of coastal salt meadows,
land brush and woodlands, and open
ays and channels.
Bird observation opportunities reach a peak
during the spring and fall migrations.
Wildlife trails, observation towers, and an
information center are among the facilities
available to the public.
This list contains 270 species that have
been identified on Brigantine since its
establishment. Names and order of listing
are in accord with the Fifth A.O.U.
check-list, as amended
Most birds are migratory, therefore their seasonal
occurrence is coded as follows:

s - Spring March-May
I - Summer June-August
F - Fall September-November
W - Winter December-February
t = Nesting has occurred on the refuge
RELATIVE ABUNDANCE
= abundant a species which is very numerous.
certain to be seen or heard in
suitable habitat.
= uncommon present, but not certain to be
seen.
= occasional seen only a few times during
a season.
= rare seen at intervals of 2 to 5 years.
