Here they are: 1. Before climbing the rocky south slope for the Five-striped sparrow (which we had hoped to locate without climbing, this bird drew me uphill like a magnet. We both heard it watched it with binocs from the road below the slope. Trim, 6&" bird. 100' away on ocotillo on dry, sparse south slope hill, Perched erect, repeating 3-syllables - 2 higher, 1 lover, and all "churred", if you can interpret that term! It appeared uniformly blue-gray on the sides and above, with clear (pale) yellow below on chest and belly. Color layout pattern underneath was sharply defined and designed as on the black phoebe or slate-colored junco male. Head and throat to upper chest also blue gray in case that wasn't clear from previous words. Murray wrote notes on her hearing of the call. A quick look through Stotz mexican birdbook showed absolutely nothing close to this bird. I saw it no more when I climbed up. 2. While well up the south slope for the "1)" bird, and after seeing 5-striped sps?, I watched this flycatcher, Empidonax-size. No calls were given. Dark gray brown in coloration, with back and rump bright and rich pearl-gray. Rich buff underneath, as on the buff-breasted flycatcher." Sides were yellowish. Perched on ocotillo and in mesquite and yucca. 3. Finally, back at the river crossing by the rest area, a chat-sized bird on the open ground with sparrows. Flew to thicket, then across the stream to a willow, upstream and back across to sparse shrubs in a sandy area above our creek crossing. Yellow breast and ?? belly. Dark pointed bill, white line over eye, grayish brown above, with large, light (white) patches on the shoulder areas of both wings. Not a ybchat. Now, is that a challenge for your thoughts? I'll be anxious to know your thoughts of these, other than the obvious impression Murray and I had sunstroke, too much tequila, or ????? I've already recieved back one roll of film, and they lost a slide I took out the bedroom window. All other shots, except the coral bells at the spring (1st shot on a roll) turned out.
