May 30, 1958, 9-11:30 a.m. Pope Beach, Tahoe, Eldorado Co.Calif. Bittern - 1 heard Canada Goose - 2 -green Mallard - 8 pair, nests with 11 pale blue/eggs under pines. 5eggs in willow thicket of sticks and twigs with buff-sandy-tan eggs, and 4 cream-colored eggs in nest of Scirpus in dense stand 15" high on buff sand. Pintail - 1M Cinnamon Teal - 1M C. Merganser - 2 pr. and 1 M. Gallinule - 1 found dead on marsh side of spit. Killdeer - 4 - 2 dark gray eggs w/ black or dark brown blotches on chips of plants. Spotted Sandpiper - 8-12 - nest of 2 1/2" dia. cup with eggs,point down, and below nest rim level. Nest under dead plant canopy. 4 dark gray eggs with black and dark brown blotches Calif. Gulls - ? 10 House Sparrow - 1 Red-shafted Flicker - 1 Yellow-headed Blackbirds - 250& Wood Pewee - three-color redwings - 100 Horned Lark - 3 Brewer Blackbirds - 150 - 3 nests on ground in open. Violet-green Swallow - 1 Cowbird 6 3 poor-2-day yng & 1 egg; 6 eggs, Tree Swallows - many(25?) X2 Western Tanager - 1 / and 5 eggs in small willow Barn Swallow - 4 Cassin Finch - 2 / thicket under pines. Blk-billed Magpie - 2 Desert Sparrow - 2 Mountain Chickadee - 1 Lincoln Sparrow- 3 House Wren Song Sparrow - 6 Robin - 2 Wilson Warbler - 5 Yellow Warbler - 8 Audubon Warbler 3 May 30, 1958, 3:30-4:30 p.m. PDST. Eldorado Co.Calif. From 4:30 to 5 a.m. PDST, the bird chorus was terrific for this area where only a few species and a few individuals are seen during a day's time: Wood Pewee, Stellar Jay, Mtn. Chickadee, Pigmy Nuthch,Robin,W. Tanager,Cassin Finch,Grn-tl Towhee Gray-head Fox Sp. /2 holes in y ung 2-topped Jeffry pine at 25-25'-south side.
