Sept. 1, 1970, At base of Columbia Ice Field Glacier - 2 Bald Eagles & 1 near Beluga Oil Fiel(Ravens S of Tyonek, W side of Cook Inlet Trumpeter Swans and young on MacArthur Flats, W of Cook Inlet. Glaucous and Glaucous-winged Gulls at Sparks Platform in Cook Inlet. Snow Buntings near Sparks Platform, over Inlet. Pectoral Sandpipers, Wandering Tattler and Black Brant at Granite Point. Also Snow Geese and Sandhill Cranes 3583 Sept. 1, 1970, Kenai Nat. Moose Range, Swamson R. Field. 3 p.m. 3 seen. *** Spruce Grouse - Canachites candadensis atratus - w/o rusty bar on tail plus darkrump. Sept. 2, 1970, Fairbanks Intl. Airport, Lake near hangers. 9:10-9:30 a.m. Cool, drizzle, ovc. Red-necked Grebe Bufflehead Horned Grebe C. Scoter Lesser Scaup White-wing Scoter Golden-crowned Sparrows 3584 Sept. 2, 1970, Beaufort Sea at Prudhoe Bay, Arctic Coast of Alaska. 1:15-2 p.m. Cold, windy, 3585 ovc. 20-25°, 20-30 mph. ***Yellow-billed Loon - Gavia adamsii - 2 in bay waters. Arctic Loon - 2 or 3 on small ponds and lakes in tundra. Full plumaged beauties. Red-throated Loon - 2 in bay waters. White-fronted Geese - 15-20 in tundra flat near road to docks. Fulmar - 2 over tundra close to Beaufort Sea. *** Gyrfalcon - Falco rusticolus - 1 over lake and tundra N of headquarters bldgs. Long-tailed Jaeger - few "hawking" and hovering over tundra Parasitic Jaeger - ditto.
