Barn Swallow in town along the river at Downieville Cliff Swallow - 2 seen at San Juan Stellar Jays Dipper - 2 Robins Brewer Blackbirds Brown-headed Cowbirds July 20-22, 1962, Chapman Creek Campground, Tahoe N.F. Sierra Co.Calif. SW¼ Sec.32,T21N, R13E, south edge. 5900' el. C.S.H.49. Screech Owl - 1 Pacific Nighthawk - 2 or 3 as much as 500' over camp area. Vaux Swifts - about 15 or 20 overhead in area - suspect they roosted in crevices or holes in tall Red Fir (Abies magnifica) at our own camp. In air from as early as 6:30 to as late as 8:15 p.m. PDST. Busy and noisy most of day overhead, tho gone for short intervals. Black Swift - 1 larger swift of uniform dark color with all the others on 7/21.(AJA & FE) Pileated Woodpecker - none heard or seen, but tremendous amt. of their working signs. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 Hairy Woodpecker - 1 Wood Pewee - called as early at 440 a.m. and as late as 915 p.m. PDST. Longest active. (Clive-sided Flycatcher - 2 Stellar Jay Mountain Chickadee - 4 or 5 Red-breasted Nuthatches - 2 Pigmy Nuthatches - 6 Brown Creeper - one family (?) of about 7 Robin - first called about 5 a.m. and last about 9 p.m. Hermit Thrush calling after 8 p.m. evenings, and heard only lx during main pa/rt of day. Townsend Solitaire - 1 Warbling Vireo in fir and alder thickets along creek Audubon Warbler - 2 Hermit Warbler - 1 imm. M seen Wilson Warbler - severan Western Tanager - 1 F seen in camp area. Evening Grosbeaks fairly common, with 1 F or imm. feeding regularly on the bare (?) litter in our camp area. Elsewhere I watched a M and F mating??? Cassin Finches - singing most of day as part of the "scene". Pine Siskins common and calling as they flew from tree to tree most of day Oregon Junco - few around, but 1 nest with 3 eggs (since 7/18) in 10-12"-hi Juncus openmeadow Chipping sparrow - 2
