A terrifically loud and long dawn chorus - 4:15-5a.m.PDST Spotted Sandpiper - 1 near camp Vaux Swift - 2 heard and seen above tree tops and slope west of Silver Fork- 8 p.m. Red-shafted Flicker - 3 or 4 Red-breasted Sapsucker - 2 seen Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 4 seen White-headed Woodpecker - 1 W. Wood Pewee - few, called both early and late in day Clive-sided Flycatcher - called during better part of day except very early and late. Tree Swallows - 1l-16 over China Flat meadows, mostly in p.m. Stellar Jay - several pair. Mountain Chickadee - 1 pair seen Brown Creeper - 1 on higher woods. Robins - several around, and singing and calling early and late Townsend Solitaire - 1 adult flushed from nest with easterly exposure on NE slope just 5' from small creek in heavy fir forest canopy, with much fallen debris on the slope and in the creek. Nest on ground 1/3 exposed, but mostly under dirt and limb overhang. Nest had outside diameter of 10
