March 17, 1962, Canyon Ranch and Bolinas Lagoon, CSH l, Marin Co. Calif.10:15-2:30PST. Overcast, cool and breezy. Occsl. light rain. Arctic Loon - 3 Western Grebe - 15020 Hoebell or Red-necked Grebe - 2 Eared Grebe - 2 Horneu Grebe - 15 Pied-billed Grebe - 5 Double-crested Cormorants - 7 Blue Heron - 20-25. rookery in top of redwoods on north/slope of ridge on Canyon Ranch properties just above ranch buildings. Many on nests, and one egg wis-ible with bird standing beside it. Common Egret - 12-15 Snowy Egrets - 45-50 - breeding plumes plainly visible. Vultures - many overhead Redtailed Hawk - several pair Osprey - in p.m. one Blew over ranch from Lagoon, carrying fish, & chased by gull. Sparrow Hawk - 2 Lesser Scaup - 12's Canvasback - 6M and 5F or imm. Common Golden-eyes - ratio 1 ad. male per 5 F or imm. - 25-30 total Bufflehead - 1 ad. male to 3 F or imm. ratio - about 40 seen. Ruddy Duck - 1000's Surf Scoter - 15-20 pairs Red-breasted Merganser - 1 Coots - 100's and 100's Killdeer - 5 Willets - 35-40 seen. Herring Gulls Western Gulls Bonaparte Gull - 3 Common Tern. Rufous Hummingbirds - 15-20 Kingfisher - 6 Red-shafted Flickers DownyWoodpecker Black Phoebe - 2 Violet-green Swallows Stellar Jay - 2 Scrub Jays W.
