May 8, 1960, Condor Refuge area, & enroute, N of Fillmore, Ventura Co. Calif. 8:45-2:45 PDST. with Cooper Club group of 75 sponsored and led by Ken Stager of L.A.Co. Museum. Turkey Vulture - many seen 6-7 With Will Foerster and Gale Monson California Condor - Gymnogyps californianus - upon arrival at the viewing site at 9:15 2 were observed on top of rocks near Whiteacre peak, and a bit later we watched another in top of dead Big-cone Spruce tree on same ridge. As morning progress a few more were spotted over ridges east and southeast of Cow Spr. and Bucksnort Spr. sites. Occasionally one would fly over area enroute to Topatopa Pk or Cobblestone Mtn. By 11 a.m., we had seen no more that 13 in air at one time, but by 2 p.m. we had counted 21 in air at one time, with at least 3 others known to be elsewhere same time, just before our group departed for Fillmore.
