Sparrow Hawks - 2 over field. Marsh Hawk - 1 Calif. Quail - in willow-elderberry thickets along slough. Killdeer Mourning Doves Kingfishers - 2 Red-shafted Flickers - 5 Western Kingbird - 2 pair Calif. Woodpecker - 5 pair Red-breasted Sapsucker - 1 Black Phoebe - 2 Scrub Jay - 2 Plain Titmouse - 4 Robin - 2 Western Meadowlark House Sparrows Redwings Bullock Oriole - 2 pair Brewer Blackbirds- 4 pair HouseFinches Common Goldfinches Green-backed Goldfinches Spotted Towhees Brown Towhees. July 27-29, 1956, Meek's Creek Drainage, Genevieve-Rubicon Lake, Eldorado Co.Calif. 7200'-8600' el. Weather clear and warm, windy, cold at night. American Merganser - F and 9 ½-grown young residing on Stony Ridge Lake. Because of activity about lake, they were seen at various places about the lake during the 3 days we were there. At night they all roosted on a small rock about 50 ft. offshore Red-tailed Hawk - 1 imm. Anna Hummingbird Allan ? Hummingbird - pretty sure of this. Rufous Hummingbird - most common - about a wide variety of flowers from Senecio to Columbine Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 Pileated Woodpecker - 1 seen, and lots of fairly fresh workings seen. Williamson Sapsucker Hairy Woodpecker White-headed Woodpecker W. Wood Pewee - 1st to call before daybreak at stony Ridge camp. Western Flycatcher Olive-sided Flycatcher common Stellar Jay - few Clarke Nutcracker - 4 Mountain Chickadee White-breasted Nuthatch Red-breasted Nuthatch Pigmy Nuthatch Winter Wren Rock Wren Robin Hermit Thrush - 2 Mountain Bluebird - 3 Golden-crowned Kinglet Warbling Vireo Yellow Warbler Calaveras Warbler Audubon Warbler Hermit Warbler Townsend Warbler Western Tanager Pine Grosbeak Cassin Purple Finch Pine Siskins Green-tailed Towhee Oregon Junco Chipping Sparrow Lincoln Sp. Blue Grouse - 1 ad. flushed from hemlock clump at 8850' SW of Stony Ridge at 130 p.m. Band-tailed Pigeon - a pair at 8850' SW of Stony Ridgelake. Clarke Nutcracker - 2 pair Cassin Finch common Pine Grosbeak - pairs Pine Siskins common Red Crossbills - 4 Rosy Finch - 3 near summit Oregon Juncos common.
