Oct. 3, 1952, Camp Seco Pond, Calaveras Co. Calif. 1010-1030PST. Down 7-8 feet. Not much stemmed vegetation, but algae, etc, in water. 100's of bullfrogs. Pied-billed Grebe - 1 Mallard - 30 Baldepate - 174 Pintail - 127 Ruddy - 7 Coot 27 Killdeer Kingfisher Red-shafted Flicker Calif. Woodpecker Nuttall Woodpecker Black Phoebe 2155 Oct. 3, 1952, Pardee Res., Calaveras-Amador Cos. Calif. 1045-1105PST. Down 7 feet. Pied-billed Grebe - 3 Blue Heron - 2 Canada Goose - 8, 5 Coot - 125 Vultures - about 9 on spillway south of dam, and circling over and thru. All waterfowl at north end. 2156 October 6, 1952, Southside Park, Sacramento, Calif. 0810-0830PST. Pied-billed Grebe - 1 Snow Goose - 1 cripple Mallard - 13 pair, 6M and 11 5F.or imm. Pintail - 1 crip Green-winged Teal - 1 F or imm. Ring-necked Ducks - 13M and 11F Coot - 23 Red-shafted Flicker - 3 pair, one pair courting-dance on limb. Calif. Jays - several Robins Brewer Blackbirds 2157 October 6, 1952, Lake Washington, Yolo Co., W of Sacramento, Calif. 0840-0915PST. Water level full. Bulrush, cattail and thistle growth is lush. Cattails have filled in much open water at south end. Blue Heron - 1 Canvasback - lM with 13 Ruddy Ducks White-tailed Kite - 3 Red-tailed Hawk - 3 Marsh Hawk - 2 Sparrow Hawk - 1 Pheasant - 7M and 3F Coots - 208 (170 in one flock on lake) Red-shafted Flicker - 4 pairs Horned Larks Tree Swallows - 35-40 Barn Swallows - 2 pair Cliff Swallows - 8 Marsh Wrens - some singing Meadowlark - several Redwings, Calif. Bicolor - flocks Brewer Blackbirds - common Cowbirds - 4 or 5 seen Savannah Sparrows - flocks in thistles. Grasshoppers- also in open stubble areas. 2158
