Habitat - Valley irrigated farmland mostly. River bottoms with willows and above willow zone buffalo berry. Cottonwoods around Smith. Beaman Lakes have a border of Scirpus acutus along the biggest percentage of the shorelines. Some Eleocharis on upper reaches of the Scirpus. Submergents just leafing out in water, probably a Potamogeton. Water permanent. Sandy soil. One lake has S. acutus islands. Desert vegetation Sarcobatus and Artemisia [illegible] mostly. Snowy Egret - Small nesting colony in plain sight on Scirpus acutus islands in Beaman Lakes. Nesting with black-crowned night herons. Black-crowned Night Heron - See above. Canada Goose - Two broods with adults at Beaman Lakes. Young have just gotten their cheek patches. Mallard - Small flock of molting males. Gadwall - A pair or two. Redhead - A few on Beaman Lakes. Ruddy Duck - " " " " Turkey Vultures Ring-necked Pheasant - Coots - Beaman L. Killdeer - Beaman L. Adult with almost fully grown young. Willet - NH3 Three seen at Beaman Lakes. Avocet - Beaman Lakes Western Kingbirds Bank or Rough-winged Swallow - Walker River Bridge out of Smith Barn Swallow Cliff Swallow Maggie Crow - Quite a few along Walker R. House Wren - One with nest under house eaves at ranch along Walker R. Yellow Warbler - Smith and Walker River bottoms Yellow-throat - Beaman Lakes Chat - Heard calling from willows in Walker R. bottoms Pileolated Warbler - At Smith and in willows along Walker River English Sparrow - Smith W. Meadblark Yellow-headed Blackbird Bullock's Oriole - Smith Lazuli Bunting - In willows along Walker River House Finch - Smith Spotted Towhee - Present in buffalo-berrys
