Band-tailed pigeons - flock of over 60 in digger pine towering above live oak woodland on north slope of ridge. Mourning Doves - found one nest on horizontal southside limb of Buckeye at about 10' elev. Pin-feather young in it, dead. Barn Owl-flushed 2 from dense live-oak woodland on north slope. One adult larger. Anna Hummingbird Red-shafted Flicker California Woodpeckers common Lewis Woodpeckers common, also. Observed some at 6'. Nuttall Woodpecker Western Kingbird Ash-throated Flycatcher Black Phoebe Traill Flycatcher Barn Swallow California Jay Yellow-billed Magpies common Western Crow Plain Titmouse - paired, and carrying food to youngin nest holes. Bush-tits -small flocks of 3 or 4 Slender-billed Nuthatch - calling in oaks Pallid Wren-tits calling in chaparral. Robin Western Bluebirds Orange-crowned Warblers Yellow Warbler Pacific Yellowthroat Pileolated Warbler Western Meadowlark Redwings Bullock Oriole - many scolding and other notes given - about 15 males and 10 or 12 females seen today. Brewer Blackbirds Brown-headed Cowbirds - 2 seen and several others heard -never over 2 at time. Western Tangger - about 6 or 8 males seen in dense live oak woodland as well as in open woodland. Few females (I Believe). Black-headed Grosbeaks - 3 or 4 pairs seen, and few others heard. Purple Finches - few in small flocks House Finches - common in flocks and paired.
