American Egret Mallards Marsh Hawk Duck Hawk Sparrow Hawk Coots Mourning Dove - 1 Lewis Woodpecker Yellow-billed Magpies W. Crows Calif. Shrike W. Meadowlark Purple Finches Lark Sparrows along most of way. Dec. 13, 1950, Pennington-Gridley, via Butte Cr. & Cherokee Canal area in SW Butte Co. Calif. 1200-1415 PST. L- Blue Herons American Egrets Canada Geese - both Lessers and Cackling Mallard Pintail White-tailed Kites - a pair of them in old cottonwood, and flying around it. Red-tailed Hawk - seemed to be dozens, both pairs and singles. Swainson Hawk - very few Marsh Hawk Sparrow Hawks - dozens - about 2 for every 1 redtail. Pheasants - no cocks seen - all hens or immatures. Sandhill Cranes - 21 flew over Goodspeed road area at 2 p.m. Coots Kingfisher Red-shafted Flicker California Woodpecker Lewis Woodpecker Nuttall Woodpecker Black Phoebe Yellow-billed Magpies Western Bluebirds Pipits Calif.
