Baldpate - 6 Pintail - 18 Lesser Scaup - 6 Ruddy Duck - 2 Coots - 200 Killdeer Audubon Warbler - 10 Brewer Blackbird Purple Finch Clumps of Scirpus, and much Ranunculus in water. 1794 Dec. 6, 1950, Lagoon at mouth, Santa Maria, Salinas R., S.Barbara Co. Calif. American Egret - 2 1515-1600. Waterfowl - about 4,000 consisting of: Mallard - 1/16 (see coots) Baldpate - 1/32 Pintail - 1/8 Green-winged Teal - Cinnamon Teal - (9) Ruddy Duck - (12) some oil-soaked. Red-tailed Hawk Marsh Hawk Coots - made up 3/4 of the above 4,000 waterfowl. Coots Dowitcher Ring-billed Gulls - pouring into lake at evening from the east. Kingfisher Black Phoebe Tree Swallows - 5 flew over, calling softly, Western Crows - one long string flying a northwesterly course from the vicinity of the lake. As we left the area, a string was heading southwesterly in two groups at about 500 feet elevation. In unison, the two groups turned, headed north, turned again and headed southward on their original course, all by an un- seen signal. They roost in the willow thickets in the dune areas along the coast. 1796 OVER
