April 8, 1950, Southside Park, 9-920 a.m., Sacramento, California. Snow Goose - 1 Mallard -6M and 2F, and 34hens, each with chicks numbering 9, 5, 2, and 6. Pintail - 2 males, one of which has a bad wing. Ring-necked Ducks - all paired up, in very loose associations, 8 pair & lM. Coots - 18 Rufous Hummingbirds - 1st I've seen this far north. Interior California Jays Robins Audubon Warbler Brewer Blackbirds - about 40 Calif. Purple Finch House Finches Green-backed Goldfinches April 8, 1950, Lake Washington, Yolo Co., W of Sacramento, Calif. 1040-ll a.m. Has been stormy last 2 days, and 40vc, WlO, RW- today. Mallards - 40 Cinnamon Teal - 1 M and 2F. Shoveller - 1 pair. White-tailed Kite - center tail feathers gray. Hovering at 75 feet, , held altitude. Sparrow Hawk Pheasant - 1 F Gallinule - 1 Coots - 25, 125, 130, 15, 5 - 300,total. Few scattered, most feeding in grain in large bunches. Red-shafted Flicker Tree Swallow - 5 on wire line Western Crow Suisun Long-billed Marsh Wren - about 25 individuals singing Pacific Yellowthroat in Scirpus. Western Meadowlarks Calif. Bicolor Redwings well-paired up. Brewer Blackbirds Golden-crowned Sparrows - flock of about 35 in willow along ditch. Had been feed- ing in grain field when I flushed them. Song Sparrow,Modesto.
