January 10, 1950, Donner Lake, Nevada Co., US 40, California. 1030 a.m. Visibility poor, 20-25mi winds from W, and snowing and very cold. Pied-billed Grebe - 1 Canada Goose - saw about 6 near SE corner. American Golden-eyes thinly scattered along N edge - 12M & 2F or imm. Coots - a very few along N edge, and about 400 in small rafts at E end. Lake not frozen, spots on edge. Jan. 10, 1950, Truckee R., Boca-Farad,/US 40. 1045-55 a.m. Wx. as Donner. American Mergansers - 3M and 2 F or imm. Dipper - one below Boca Bridge, on rock in midstream, and walked off into rapid water. Truckee frozen over above Boca, open all way below. Jan. 10, 1950, Wingfield Park, Reno, Nevada - 1200-1230 PST. W 30-35. Cold, most of river frozen over in the park. Waves on water. Common Canada Goose - 38 Lesser Canada Goose - 7 White-fronted Goose - 1 - has gray back, side of face and head, but otherwise looks like this species, but is larger. Mallard - 73M and 57F Baldpate - 9M and 11F Lesser Scaup - 1M Coot - 8 January 14, 1950, Lake Washington, Yolo Co., of Sacramento, Calif. 1030 Heavy rains, and winds to 70 mph last night - clear and cold this a.m. Canvasback - 38 Greater Scaup - 2 Lesser Scaup - 12 Ruddy Duck - 9 American Merganser - 2M Red-tailed Hawk - 1 Coots - 2 large rafts and misc - total - 1,683 Killdeer-- 5 or 6 Red-winged Blackbirds - 25 Song Sparrow - 1 January 14, 1950, Southside Park, Sacramento, Calif. 1600-1620 p.m. Heavy rains, and winds to 70 mph last night - calm this p.m. Pied-billed Grebe - 1 Snow Goose - 1 Mallard - 12M and 14F Pintail - 3M Ring-necked Duck - 91M & 53F Canvasback - 91M & 67F Lesser Scaup - 5M & 3F Coots - 37 Killdeer - 5 flew over California Jay - 5 or 6 in trees of the park Robins - about 15 -20 in trees and feeding on the ground Cedar Waxwings - flock of 27 Audubon Warbler - several working leafless trees in the park. Brewer Blackbirds - 90 Calif. Purple Finch
