Water conditions. Allthough the stick read only 15 inches, two sections of the road were flooded and most of the property. The water was about 6 inches higher on the south side than on the north side. Could barely make it to the island on the south side. Meadow at north end held water about 18 inches deep. Area Covered: All of swamp. Walked up into meadow considerable distance and also to south end. Blue Heron - 1 Canada Goose - 1,500 or more in area. Saw this number in field northeast of main pond. Later saw about 1,000 which were additional ones or the same. Mallard - Total of about 100 on area. These mostly in meadow with a few at the south end. Gadwall - Watched a flock of 22 at south end along southwest enge of the island. Pintail - About 25. All in the meadow. Green-winged Teal - 50, all in the meadow. Ring-necked Duck - Has this one ever been recorded at the swamp before? Saw one male in the main pond along with one male Scaup. See above. These two ducks were the only ducks seen in the main pond. Ruddy Duck - One male and one female were seen on the south side of the dike road. Male showed some red coloring already. Coot - About 120 total. These were mostly on the south side. Killdeer - 3 near the barn. Marsh Wren Pipit - About 15 at south end. Red-wing - About 75 came in at 3:30. Golden-crowned Sparrow - Flock in rose near barn. Song Sparrow 1429a
