Sparrow Hawk Valley Quail - 15 Coots - 20 ? gulls - probably California. Red-shafted Flicker Black Phoebe California Jay Western Bluebird - small flocks Calif. Shrikes W. Meadowlarks Brewer Blackbirds Calif. Purple Finches and House Finches Common Goldfinches Sacto. Brown Towhee Juncos Gambel White-crowned Sparrow Jan. 3, 1950, Stony Gorge Res., and vicinity, Stony Cr., Glenn Co. Calif. 1140-1200, Clear and cold, N3-7. Common Loon - 1 Pied-billed Grebe - 3 Canada Goose - 200 Unidentified ducks - 40 Pintails - 21 American Merganser - 4 Golden Eagle- 2 circling over the area Coots - 25 Roadrunner - on hiway just west of reservoir at 1140 a.m. Flew off road and across the fence and then leisurely moved away from us, across sparse grassland in rolling hill country of scattered blue oaks and buckbrush - there were no color patches on its face.
