Dec. 6, 1949, Moss Landing E on ridge about 4 miles, south of Elkhorn
Slough area, 1350-1410.
Vultures - 3 seen
White-tailed Kite - hovered 2-3 minutes without pause - observed for 5
minutes. Kept dropping lower all the time but made no passes
Would lose altitude by extending wings in a vertical "V" over
back, thus slipping downward. Within ½-mile of new Steam Plant.
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Sparrow Hawk - 10-12
Killdeer - 12 in cattle pasture.
Wilson Snipe - 1 with redwings, feeding in dung and cabbage tops put
out for the cattle in this moist pasture on the ridge.
Crows - flocking
Pipits with redwings and snipe
Meadowlarks
Bicolor and Tricolor Redwings, Br. Blkbds, Purple & House Finches
