Mountain Quail - 4 W. Bluebirds in small flocks Flicker - 20& in one flock Golden-crowned Kinglets - a few Stellar Jay - 6-8 in " Ruby-crowned Kinglets - 3 or 4 seen and heard W. Crows calling Cedar Waxwings - small flock Raven - one heard Meadowlark singing Oregon Chickadee - a few Purple Finch Winter Wren - 5 or 4 seen Oregon Towhees in brush Robin Juncos in flocks of 50 to 100 in fence rows by road. Oct. 14, 1947, 12-mile Swamp, 40 Ovc 15¢ RW- 1415-1540 Pied-billed Grebe - 2 rather small looking ones seen, close to Ruddies, and shovellers Blue Heron - feedingin shallows with mallards and shovellers, etc. Cackling Geese - one with ruddies and shovellers, and 8 flew over later. Mallards - 130 & and 400-450 seen, many full males. Baldpates - just 2 seen Pintails - 8 & 10 & 100& Not too many males Green-winged Teal - about 150& in flock at north end. - strange new guttural call notes. Shovellers - no full adult males seen, all in F plumage, 10 & 100-125 seen. Wood Ducks - 2 males on waters of the main creek Ruddy Ducks - 3 females or immatures on bridge pond. Redtail Hawk - immature perched in small ash tree over the water. Marsh Hawk - female coursing back and forth, immature plumage. Pheasant - quite a few flushed from fields and fence row Coots - common, 7 & 75&, scattered before the marsh hawk. Wilson Snipe - 4, 1, 1, and saw 2 calling and flying at about 400 over the swamp. Killdeer - heard one Flicker - a few feeding on the ground, and perched in the ash trees, etc. Horned Lark - heard one singing on the ground Oregon Chickadee - a few calling and working the fence rows, etc. Seattle Wren - scolding Tule Wren - scolding and singing, all within 10 feet of me, while watching the ducks. Robin - a few in the ash areas W. Bluebirds - small numbers of them here and there. Pipits - flying around in small groups, and calling. Audubon Warbler - just one seen, on the ground in a pasture area, flew ahead and then would light on the ground again. Meadowlark singing. Redwings - 100& in the area. about equal M & F. Brewer Blacks - here and there, and small flocks flying over. Purple Finches singing and in fence rows Willow Goldfinch - small numbers present - no full plumages seen. Oregon Towhee - several in the brush Savannah Sparrows in the weed patches, etc. Juncos here and there. Golden-crowned Sparrows in fence row Song Sparrows here and there.
