Audubon Warbler singing lightly Junco on ground by the river. Sept. 23, 1947, Corvallis-12-mile Swamp, 1330-1350, NE7-10,85°, -Ø/ Vulture - 3 Kildeer, 4 Barn Swallow - 100& in one group at Greenberry English Sparrow - 4 Redwing - 1 Brewer Blackbird - 8 Purple Finch - 1 singing Goldfinch sp? - 4 Song Sparrow - 1 AND RETURN, 1530-1600, 87°, NNE8-12, -Ø/ Kildeer - 2 Barn Swallow - 1 English Sparrow - 2 Meadowlark - 2 Brewer Blackbird - 26 (25 together) Fringillid sp? - 4 Goldfinch sp? - 2 Sept. 23, 1947, 12-mile Swamp, 1350-1530, 86°& , -Ø/ Pica-billed Grebe - 4 immatures on one patch of open water Cackling Goose - 1 Mallards - 15-25 on the area, no full males Pintail - 1 (imm. or molt, etc??) Green-winged Teal - 25-30 with the mallards and shovellers Shovellers - 3 full males & 4 or 5 other birds Vulture - a couple circled over Redtail - 1 circling low over the field - not full adult. Marsh Hawk - 1 female and at least 3 immatures cruising back and North over the swamp, particularly along an ash-spirea fence row in which several adult and immature pheasants were "holed-up". Sometimes they'd perch on bushes in the middle of the swamp, or dive at a young pheasant, or flush a large group of Redwings, but they didn't flush a mixed flock of ducks that they flew over, and I don't understand that for the other morning the ducks flushed under them as readily as the redwings, etc. Sparrow Hawk - 1 Pheasants - up to 10 or so worked out of the aforementioned fence row into the Daucus field east of the swamp, where we flushed them. Coot - just 1 seen Kildeer - up to 6 in a group and 2 or 3 such groups seen Wilson Snipe - flushed 1 in south end. Flicker - 1 seen Barn Swallow - none present when we arrived, but as we left 25 or so were around the cabin area. Oregon Chickadee - 1 Robin - 10 or 15 in ash at south end. Pipits - a few Meadowlark singing Redwings - over 100 mixed present Brewer Blkbd - few Willow Goldfinch - about 30 seen in imm. or molt plumage. Savannah Sparrow - we must have been at least 50 of them altogether scattered over the area, for they flushed as singles and 2, 3, or 4, etc., everywhere. White-crowned Sparrows - 2 or 3 seen in fence row Song Sparrows - 2 or 3 seen.
