Red-tailed Hawks Stellar Jays Oregon Chickadees Chestnut-backed Chickadees Creepers South side Wood Duck - female on lower quarry pool Vultures circling over Sharp-shinned Hawk sailing low, and diving on mice now and then Sparrow Hawk on wire line near road. Red-tailed Hawk. Bob Whites- flushed one covey of 11 birds from gravel road Pheasants here and there, mostly young birds Band-tailed Pigeons - 2 flushed from oak tree near top of butte. Mourning Doves - few scattered here and there. Vaux Swifts - several with swallows over water, and others high over butte top. Flicker - a couple seen, and others calling Violet-green Swallows - 50-75 dipping into water in mixed-up fashion. Time and again Tree Swallows - 4 seen/ majorly immatures. Barn Swallows - 25-40 with others over water. Cliff Swallows - only 4 birds were seen. Long-tailed Jay in thickets, and scolding now and then. Ravens - 3 were circling and having "duels" with Red-tailed Hawk now and then. Oregon Chickadees in oaks and bushes Slender-billed Nuthatches - 2 birds seen. Tule Wren - at east end of low quarry, in tule or cattail area Robin Audubon Warblers - a few working thru the oaks Pacific Yellowthroats - in willow thickets in cattail area of quarry Meadowlarks - on grassy slopes. Some singing. Redwing - flushed one from cattail area of quarry Willow Goldfinch - in small flocks here and there, most in molting process. Vesper Sparrows - flushed now and then, perhaps 10 altogether. Junco Song Sparrows September 13, 1947, Helmick State Park, Luckiamute R., Polk Co. 1015-1100, Clear & warm. Redtail Hawk in top of L. Fir tree Vaux Swifts - 15-20 over tree tops near river Flicker Violet-green Swallows Stellar Jay - 5 birds seen. Two were calling, and carrying fresh Hazelnuts at the same time. Chestnut-backed Chickadees Slender-billed Nuthatches Seattle Wren Robin Cassin Vireo calling in big-leaf maple tree Audubon Warbler Black-throated Gray Warbler in maple tree and alders, too. Slong Sparrow September 15, 1947, Woodburn, Black-throated Gray Warbler at home, 3 p.m. Sept. 15, 1947, Welches Golf Course, Mtn. Hood, Clackamas Co. 1130-5 p.m. Killdeer - 3 seen Stellar Jays - flying about the timber, and calling now and then. Ravens - 2 flew over Hutton Vireo - calling from maple tree at edge of L. Fir woods Pacific Yellowthroat - calling from thicket next to small lake Meadowlark on the fairway Chipping Sparrows - on the fairways, and flew into trees when flushed.
