Vultures over the area Sparrow Hawk - one flushed from top of pole by Lewis Woodpecker that wanted to light on the pole. This happened two times. Mourning Doves - scattered individuals on the wire lines. Lewis Woodpecker - pair flushed from side of gravel road where they had been at a small water seepage area by a puddle. One flew away, and the other flew to a pole on which a Sparrow Hawk was perched and the latter gave way twice. Horned Larks - I thought I saw 2 along this road, but they are certainly less abundant that previously. Seattle Wrens in fence rows W. Bluebird immatures on wire lines and in fence rows with goldfinches. Willow Goldfinches common on wire lines and in fence rows everywhere. Savannah Sparrow - one seen on fence post by stubble field White-crowned Sparrows - flock of 13-15 in gravel road near fence row. August 22, 1947, Bellfountain to Greenberry Junction on Philomath Road 1515-1600. 15 Ovc, RW-, etc. Vultures - I saw a few circling over the area, and also 27 were perched either on the ground or on fence post, all lined up along the fence line up the hill. Sharp-shinned Hawk - flew from a clump of D. Fir into another one. Mourning Doves - scattered individuals seen Flicker - 2 or 3 calling from tree tops. Violet-green Swallows over fields. Barn Swallows common Cliff Swallows over fields, etc. Long-tailed Jay - a couple in young D. Fir-old Oak area, scolding. W. Bluebirds on fence lines, and posts. Audubon Warblers in D. Fir- Oak area. Brewer Blackbirds feeding on ground freshly disced today. House Finches - a pair flushed from a dense thicket, where they must have been keeping out of the rain. W. Goldfinches common in small groups. Oregon Towhee in fence row brush. Vesper Sparrows flushed from dried grass in Sweet-Briar young D. Fir pasture area. Junco flushed from gravel road at edge of D. Fir forest.
