Little Flycatcher Horned Larks Oregon Chickadees Slender-billed Nuthatch Seattle Wrens in the trees at heights to 25 feet. Robin - small flocks of immature birds, some not long from nest Russet-backed Thrush - adults and immatures - the latter more curious Cedar Waxwings Cassin Vireos Warbling Vireos - adults and young in the brush, tame Audubon Warbler Pileolated Warbler MacGillivray Warbler Bullock Oriole - one brilliant specimen seen Lazuli Bunting on nearby wire-lines Willow Goldfinches Towhee Junco SongSparrow Aug 10, 1947 - Stewart Lakes - 2-3 p.m. Clear + warm-W5 Wood Ducks - flushed 4 yng birds Little Flycatches - at least a dozen around the pond Oregon Chickadees in the oak woods Slender-billed Nuthatch "" "" Seattle Wren in the brush, scolding Russet-backed thrush, adults + very curious immatures Cedar Waxwing, feeding over the pond + in the willows Yellow Warbler in Serviceberry tree Pileolated Warbler - one seen in bush House Finches, feeding on Hawthorn berries Towhee - sowens with leg band - could be young I banded 35' away from its present location this spring. Aug 11, 1947 - MacDonald Forest - 8-11 a.m. Blue Grouse - Flushed quite a few from the ground + they'd onto a tall bit, & as I moved about would give forth a guttural cackling sound, that I haven't heard before. "Timber Ridge Tops" Bend-tailed Vigors - 2 seen Flicker Pileolated Woodpeckers - 2 pairs were attracted by imitating their call & by pounding on a "sound ing board" D. Frit. They came within 25' of me, & were very curious. They finally flew from tree to tree together. Coast Jays common Red-breasted Nuthatch calling Winter Wren singing W. Sangers calling 8-11-47 - Near Launburg I saw a Lewis Woodpecker + Long-tail Jay in oaks.
