Lincoln Co. October 5, 1949, Yachats State Park, /S to Neptune Park, Lane Co. Oregon noon - 1330 PST Farallon Cormorants - 20' from water on sand flat, with gulls. Baird's Cormorants - 8 Sooty Shearwaters - Puffinus griseus - ¼-mile offshore, paralleling swell crests. About 25 were seen. Pink-footed Shearwaters - Puffinus creatopus - new life lister - ½-mile offshore, paralleling swell crests - about 6 seen. Pintails - 8 of them on pools of rocky coast in tidewaters. On pools of salt water on sand beaches, and rocky headlands, too. Surf Scoter - 27 Green-winged Teal - 3 shot at Bathhurst White-winged Scoter - 25 Red-tailed Hawk Duck Hawk Black Turnstones - 40 on rocky headlands washed by waves at high tide. Heerman's Gulls - 3 dark-headed individuals, 1 full dark red bill and white trail- ing wing edge, and adult tail; other 2 gulls with dark-tipped pale bills. These gulls scattered through flocks of the following species on the sands: Western Gulls - 10 California Gulls - 350 Herring Gull - 0 / 40 Ring-billed Gulls - 2 Bonaparte Gull - 3 Kittiwake - Pacific - Rissa tridactyla pollicaris - new life lister, although listed in notes of Tom McCallister for the Oregon Coast. 3 observed about ¼-mile offshore, paralleling swell crests with shearwaters. Oregon 4 p.m. Blue Heron Least Sandpipers - 7 Western Gulls Herring Gulls October 6, 1949, Yaquina Bay, Lincoln Co. Oregon. 1115-1130 a.m. PST Horned Grebes - 2 Brown Pelicans - 20-25 Farallon Cormorants Baldpates - 35 White-winged Scoters Surf Scoters Black-bell ed Plovers - 26 in fall plumage Red-backed Sandpiper - 1 Glaucous-winged Gulls - 6-7 California Gulls Herring Gulls Ring-billed Gulls - few Red-shafer Flicker Western Kingbird - good record - Perched on top of bushes, and on wire lines, and tops of piling on sand dune area near old southside ferry landing in open. Western Crows Ravens Robins Purple Finch - flock on sand dunes and in tree lupines. Aleutian Savannah Sparrows Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrows Song Sparrows - singing
