Oregon All day. Pacific Loon - 1 winter plumage Brown Pelicans - several - immature or winter plumage. common at Yaquina Bay, too. Parallon Cormorants Fairus Cormorants Baldpates - no full males - 6 on Beaver Creek Pintails - no full M - 3 on Beaver Creek Surf Scoters - 20-25 feeding 100 yards beyond the breakers for at least 3 hours in a.m. and in approximately the same spot. Sharp-shinned Hawk dilldeer - 2 on Beaver Creek Wandering Tattler - New Life-lister - Heterocelus incanus Wandering Tattler Just one on rocks - no flight pattern seen - just grayish - 10&" long. Very erratic flight - slim-looking. 3-4 syllable melodic note in alarm flight. On rocky islands at low tide, near Seal Rocks. Western Gulls Herring Gulls Sand-tailed Pigeons - 8-10 around cabin, mostly perched in tops of live and dead spruce, and few in lodgepole pine. On Oct. 4 ceiling zero, R- and S 15-25 m.p.h. when about 20 pigeons were perched in one spruce and 2 spruce snags from 8 a.m. till at least 4 p.m. No less than 6 were seen at these perches during this time. Rain did- n't seem to affect them. kingsfishers - 2 over beach - (also 2 on October 5) Chestnut-backed Chickadees - small flocks Coast Wren-tit - one calling at 9 a.m. just before rain. robin - in spruce and lodgepole area or areas. Aleutian Savannah Sparrow - feeding on wave-washed rocks in tidepool areas, etc. Oregon Juncos in lodgepole area - open below. Song Sparrow. October 4, 1949 - Ards Day! October 5, 1949, Seal Rocks - 10-11 a.m., Lincoln County, Oregon Brown Pelicans - 6 Parallon Cormorants - dozens Surf Scoter - white forehead only, and feeding in shallow, rocky surf. On on sandstone outcrop at head of surf were: 1 Black-bellied plover, 1 sanderling, and 1 black turnstone all in winter plumage.
